One
of the earliest permanent settlements in the New World, Hertford, North Carolina
was established in the 1600s. In 1759, Hertford was named for Francis Conway,
the Earl of Hertford.
The downtown walking tours of Hertford, North Carolina include Woodard's Pharmacy and The Courthouse. Hertford boasts Missing Mill Park, a great location for a day fishing or just relaxing. Golfing at Sound Golf Links, an 18-hole championship course, offers a challenge to golfers of all abilities. Located on the Albemarle Sound, the Links were designed by Dan Maples. Other links of interest include the 1730 Newbold-White House, The First Deed, The "S" Shaped Bridge and Beechtree Historic Site.
